The police exist to help and protect the citizens they serve. Some officers go above and beyond their call to duty when they are in the field. Such is the case for one Miami-Dade cop. The undercover officer was scouting out a home for a potential drug bust. What the officer, and his partner, did not know is that they had stumbled onto dangerous property. A dog attacked one of the officers; inflicting serious bite wounds in the cop's leg.
While trying to keep the community safe and conducting an undercover investigation, the officer received permission to enter the property and was blindsided by the dog. It was only after sustaining serious bodily harm that the threat could be subdued, upon fearing the dog could inflict further injuries.
The officer was taken to the hospital to undergo a series of treatments for the wound and the possibility of contracting rabies from the rogue canine. In addition to receiving nearly 20 injections to guard against rabies, the cop must take time out of his schedule for two additional visits to the hospital.
It is the responsibility of a property owner to keep their property safe, so incidents such as this don't occur. By sustaining these injuries, the officer will have to take the time to visit doctors and may not be able to perform his duties to full potential because of the bite wounds. Not only is the cop at a loss due to the vicious dog on these unsafe premises, but the Miami community loses too. A cop's job is to protect and serve, not to be distracted by an unnecessary injury.
